Arenui liveaboard is a traditional Phinisi, a classic Indonesian wooden sailing vessel, set to raise its anchors in June 2009 to begin its explorations of the majestic underwater world of the Indonesian archipelago.
The underlying concept of the Arenui is to provide you with the convenience of a fully equipped dive liveaboard together with all the richness, artistic touches and comforts of a top-notch luxury boutique hotel. This is the only boutique hotel that drops you off directly onto the best dive sites that Indonesia has to offer!
The same attention to detail was given in designing our cruise itineraries which include not only all of the usual popular diving sites in Indonesia, renowned worldwide for its biodiversity, but other world-class destinations which have been overlooked so far by most recreational diving operators.
Our cruise programs include: Komodo, North and Central Sulawesi, Wakatobi and, for those looking for more unusual journeys, the New Frontiers of Raja Ampat, Maluku, Cenderawasih Bay, Alor, Flores and the Taka Bone Rate Atolls. Moreover, the dates of Arenui's cruises have been planned in such a way as to ensure the most favorable weather conditions and the best sightings of marine life according to the destination.
We also offer unforgettable excursions to complete the ideal diving program and to make sure that you also have the chance to enjoy the amazing sights available on land.
Our website is intended to give you an overview of our ship and a brief summary of some of the splendor to be found in Indonesia as well as a more in-depth look at each of the destinations that the Arenui explores. However, we also invite you to contact us should you have any queries or wish to receive additional information about any aspect of our cruises.
We thank you for your interest in the Arenui and look forward to being able to welcome you on board personally where you can experience for yourself a luxury diving adventure full of unbelievable discoveries. Arenui's motto, "The Boutique Liveaboard", simply expresses our vision of providing our guests with both the highest quality offerings in terms of diving and leisure activities as well as exquisite accommodations and facilities. We think you'll find it hard to dive any other way afterwards!

Revel in a magestic array of superb natural attractions - unspoiled coral gardens, volcanic landscapes and unexplored turquoise cays . Straddling the equator, Indonesia is a tropical island paradise made up of 14,000 islands, many of which are noted as world-class diving destinations. The stunning natural wealth of this archipelago, even when considering itsindividual attractions, is enough to make most other travel spots green with envy. If you are looking for an idyllic tropical setting with great diving right at your doorstep and unforgettable natural wonders, a trip to Indonesia is a must.
Even though there is no way for this website to touch on all that Indonesia has to offer, here is a brief glimpse at some of the highlights
There is truly something for everyone. Indonesia can rightfully boast of landscapes consisting of palm-fringed tropical islands, heavenly white-sand beaches, majestic wildernesses, towering mountains, an impressive chain of volcanoes and the world’s best underwater spots.
For those with an itch to explore, you can search for the legendary "Komodo Dragon" on the island of the same name, explore the lush habitat of the "Bird of Paradise", enjoy kayaking and bird watching in the coastal mangroves or trek through superb national parks. The Cenderawasih natural reserve offers both iridescent corals underwater and great trekking opportunities as parts of visits to fascinating traditional villages.

But if your idea of a holiday is pure relaxation, you can also just relish the wonderful warmth of the sun on the legendary beaches on Bali after a drift dive through exquisite coral gardens. Nusa Tengara and North Sulawesi are famed for their underwater landscapes and the breathtaking beauty of the remote Maluku Islands can be enjoyed from our beautiful sundeck.

And, of course, for those happiest in the underwater realm, you will not be disappointed! The uniqueness of West Papua, a largely ignored region which is home to the world’s highest and most species-rich island, will leave you with fantastic memories to last a lifetime. The reefs and beaches of the Togean Islands provide spectacular diving amidst a perfect tropical island setting. Komodo of course is considered the quintessential dive destination but you shouldn't overlook the opportunity to discover the natural marine richness and the unusual rarity of places like the Raja Ampat Archipelago, which has been called a "Lost World", a jewel both on land and at sea.
And this is only a brief glimpse at the country's charms! Indonesia still has many areas waiting to be discovered. Come join us in our explorations of the hundreds of untouched islands surrounded by enchanting coral reefs that await you!
The marvelously rich culture of Indonesia boasts a unique and remarkable assortment of cultural traditions, vibrant arts and many individual ethnic groups.
The rugged mountainous terrain and the fact that the country is made up of many islands, many of which remained isolated from each other, resulted in groups of people with distinct traditions and an extraordinarily diverse differentiation of languages and cultures across the archipelago.
The islanders did not in fact become "Indonesians" until 1945, when a line was drawn to incorporate the former Dutch East Indies, a group of islands bringing together an astonishingly varied collection of peoples.
Examples of this heterogeneous development can be seen in the fascinating temple complexes of Borobudur and Prambanam, or during a visit to Sumba, home to some of the most traditional cultures in East Indonesia, where you can see spectacular ikat and massive megalithic tombs. You can also visit centers of contemporary art and culture on Bali, or discover South Sulawesi and the area of Toraja, where elaborate funeral rites are a central part of their society. To experience a living example of Indonesia's rich culture, visit the Minangkabau region of West Sumutra, known for its architecture, and where music and dance thrive. Is it any surprise then that "Unity in diversity" is Indonesia's national motto - Photos of Raja Ampat diving - Komodo diving photos

Arenui believes that, even when sailing around remote islands, there's no reason to forego fine dining! After all, a relaxing meal prepared with care and style is the best way to remain full of energy for the next dive! On Arenui, the food is always plentiful and fresh. The Arenui can host a maximum of 16 passengers who can luxuriate in exceptionally spacious cabins that are tastefully furnished with exquisite handicrafts from each of the Indonesian provinces. A king-size bed and separate salon area assures our guests' comfort. The Arenui can be your private sanctuary and second home, but one located amidst a constantly changing tropical landscape!
The Arenui has been designed to host a maximum of 16 passengers in cabins which are exceptionally apacious (starting from 17 m²) and which have been luxuriously furnished in a sophisticated and tasteful manner.
The cabins' individual themes and styles were inspired by handicrafts from each of the Indonesian provinces. Each one has a private en-suite bathroom and individual air conditioning.
A king-size bed or roomy singles and a distinct lounge area guarantee maximum comfort and ensure that our guests never feel crowded.
You will have your own truly private space on the Arenui to make you feel completely at home even while thousands of miles away.

The coral triangle is home to the world's most bio-diverse population of marine species with Indonesia representing its hottest spot. Nowhere else has a comparable density, not to mention diversity, of underwater creatures and life been recorded.
In order to fully appreciate the exceptional status of this region, suffice it to say that the whole Caribbean area has only 9% of the corals and 35% of the fish species found in Indonesian waters.
The reason for such a big difference is that the entire area of the Atlantic Ocean underwent a mass extinction of species during the last ice age. All types of corals and animals vanished during this period and the other species never regained the strength of their former numbers.
In Indonesia - the centre of this biodiversity triangle - the variety seen underwater is truly astonishing. In certain bays and around small islands, you can find more species than in the entire Caribbean. In a research report conducted in 1997 on the island of Flores, respected marine biologists Rudie Kuiter and Gerald Allen counted 1,133 species of fish just in Maumere bay. This is still the highest number of species of fish ever counted in a specific area.
In Wakatobi, the recorded number of species of fish is at least 430, and in Raja Ampat, the same Gerald Allen, world-famous ichthyologist, counted the incredible number of 284 different species of fish counted during a single dive. In the same area, 465 different species of corals were found. As a result, scientists nowadays believe that this destination is the world's current no. 1 spot in terms of biodiversity.
Other world-class hubs of biodiversity include Manado and Lembeh, Central and South Sulawesi, Komodo, Flores, Alor and the Banda sea, to name just a few. It should therefore come as no surprise that these hotspots are considered among the ultimate destinations for divers - Raja Ampat diving photos - Komodo diving photos

Getting to Raja Ampat is a two step process.
Step 1: Arrange your international air transportation to one of three Indonesian Gateway cities—Manado, Bali, or Jakarta.
Step 2: Purchase a domestic air ticket from your Indonesian Gateway city to Jefman Airport in Sorong (city code SOQ) on Papua Island (formerly known is Irian Jaya). This is the starting point for your Raja Ampat voyage.(Please note that without an Indonesian crecit card you will be unable to purchase Indonesian domestic flights - we can arrange these for you at a nominal charge)
Bali Gateway Using this routing you would fly to Denpasar Airport in Bali (DPS) using your international carrier. This route to Raja Ampat requires two legs. First is a 75 minute flight from Bali (DPS) to Ujung Pangdang (UPG - also called Makassar), a city on the island of South Sulawesi. An overnight hotel stay will be required in Ujung Padang as the onward flight does not depart until the following morning (We recommend the Imperial Aryaduta Hotel) for your overnight stay. The two hour and ten minute flight to Sorong (SOQ) the following day is operated daily with early morning departures. On the return guests can route through either Ujung Pandang or Ambon (AMQ) to return to Bali. The return to Bali can be accomplished in a single day.
Manado Gateway: Using this route you would fly into Manado (MDC) on North Sulawesi with your international flight normally from Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. An overnight stay may then be required in Manado at this point, depending on your flight schedules. From Manado connections can be made using either Lion Air or Merpati Airline for the flight into Sorong (SOQ). Flight times range between one hour fifteen minutes to two hours ten minutes depending on the carrier and whether they route through Makassar or fly direct. Between the two carriers, there are flights every day, except Sunday. The return flights work just the opposite. Again, an overnight stay may be required in either Manado, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur to sync up the international segments. If you are flying from Kuala Lumpur you can also go via Makassar on the new Air route and the onto Sorong.
Jakarta Gateway: A third alternative for guests is to use Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Jakarta (JKT), Indonesia as their gateway. The journey to Sorong (SOQ) can then be completed in a single day with flights on either Xpress Air or Merpati Airline that connect in Ujung Padang (UPG - also known as Makassar) on South Sulawesi Island. The return trip from Sorong to Jakarta can also be completed in a single day.
No matter which gateway city guests choose to utilize, we recommend two hotel nights be built into your travels. One upon arrival between the international and domestic legs, and one on your journey home between the domestic and international legs. Should a flight delay (or baggage delay) be encountered in either direction, your domestic and international airline tickets are not “linked”, and as such, no compensation or assistance would be offered by the airline. The only protection available would be Trip Interruption and Cancellation insurance.
Domestic Air Carrier Notes:
We recommend two hotel nights be built into your travels. One upon arrival between the international and domestic legs, and one on your journey home between the domestic and international legs. Should a flight delay/cancellation, baggage delay, or schedule change be encountered in either direction, your domestic and international airline tickets are not “linked”, and as such, no compensation or assistance would be offered by the airline. The only financial protection available would be Trip Interruption and Cancellation insurance.
Domestic airlines have different baggage weight restrictions than international carriers. Many times these flights are on smaller turboprop aircraft and not jets which do not have as much space and cannot take as much weight. Therefore they have more restrictive luggage reqirements. A rule of thumb is that passengers are allowed 44lbs (20kg). Above that - expect excess baggage charges. All guests are advised
to please pack carefully and light using soft bags for easier storage on the boat. Just because excess luggage charges are paid it does not necessarily mean that your luggage and you will travel on the same fight or arrive on the same day.
Premier liveaboard diving and its local agents will schedule domestic flights and purchase a tickets on behalf of guests as a service for a nominal fee, however, in doing so, Premier liveaboard diving is only acting as an agent for the airline and is not responsible for, and can accept no responsibility for, cancellations, delays, schedule changes, or problems caused by the air carrier.

Q: What documents will I need to show on the boat?
A: Duly completed Cruise Enrolment Form, Release of Liability a copy of the photo page of your
passport, certification cards and dive logbook.
Q: What money will I need?
A: The Arenui accepts payment by Visa or Mastercard, Indonesian Rupiah, Euro or US Dollar. Please
be advised that foreign notes should be clean, new and crisp. Indonesian banks and money
changers will not accept old notes or notes which are damaged in any way. You can also use your credit or
debit card at ATM machines in towns prior to boarding the boat to withdraw Rupiah, which is better
should you wish to purchase local souvenirs or for tips. It is advisable to inform your bank or credit card
company that you will be visiting Indonesia prior to your departure, as it is not uncommon for the bank to
put a block on the card if they suspect it has been misappropriated.
Q: What type of food is available on board?
A: Meals are prepared by our onboard chef and consist of a delicious mix of international and local
dishes. Please advise us as soon as possible if you have any special dietary requirements. Certain special
dietary requests and beverage requests may not be available on a consistent basis due to the remote nature
of the locations.
Q: Will there be any opportunities to go ashore during the cruise?
A: There are many different land excursions which are dependent on the schedule and guest preferences.
Some land excursions available are beach visits, village visit, a trek to see the Birds of Paradise, pearl
farm visit, a trek up the limestone cliffs in Wayag and kayaking on the lagoon at Fam.
Q: What if I am prone to sea sickness?
A: If you are prone to sea sickness we strongly urge you to bring some motion sickness medication.
Q: Will I have to share a cabin if I am travelling as a single?
A: All rates are quoted on a share basis therefore, unless you require a guaranteed single room and pay an
additional supplement you will share your cabin with one other guest. We cannot guarantee same-gender
cabins.
Q: What is the voltage on the boat?
A: Voltage in Indonesia is 220-240. However both 220 and 110 volts are available on the boat, as
well as universal power strips which take plugs from all countries.
Q: Do you have batteries on the boat?
A: We have local AA, AAA, C and D cell batteries. Long-lasting batteries are difficult to find in some
parts of Indonesia. We therefore recommend that you bring batteries with you, preferably rechargeable
with charger to minimize weight. International battery chargers will be available on board.
Q: Does the boat provide any toiletries?
A: We have hair dryers on request and in all cabins there is high-quality, handmade, natural Arenui
branded shampoo, soap, hand wash and towels.
Q: Are there laundry facilities available?
A: Yes. We have a wash and dry service available at extra cost.
Q: What time zone is Indonesia located?
A: Komodo is 8 hours ahead of GMT. Raja Ampat is covered by Eastern Indonesia Standard Time which
is 9 hours ahead of GMT.
Q: How can my family contact me in the event of an emergency at home?
A: Please call our Bali office on +62 361 730 159 during business hours (8.30am – 5.30pm local time
9 hours ahead of GMT). If outside business hours you may call our emergency cell phone number +62
812 384 0851. Please reserve calling this number for emergencies only.
Q: Is there telephone and email services available?
A: The Arenui is equipped with satellite telephones for emergency communications. Email is available
when there is mobile telephone signal.
Q: Is there entertainment onboard?
A: The Arenui has televisions, a music system and a DVD player in the main salon. A small library of
books for exchange is available, as well as fish identification books for reference.
Q: Is smoking permitted?
A: A designated area on the upper deck is available for smoking. Smoking is not permitted in any other area
for any reason.
Q: What about crew gratuities?
A: Gratuities for the crew are not included in your trip price. If the crew performs to your expectations, we
suggest a gratuity of approximately 10%-15% of the published package price per person be considered
normal aboard a liveaboard dive boat. All tips are split equally among the boat crew (approximately 21
employees). No personal tipping is allowed. Payment of gratuities can be by cash or credit card.
Diving Information
Q: Do I need evacuation/dive insurance?
A: We strongly recommend that each guest purchase comprehensive evacuation and dive accident insurance.
We will be operating in extremely remote areas. Emergency evacuations from remote locations can cost in
excess of USD $100,000. We recommend Divers Alert Network (DAN): www.DiversAlertNetwork.org
(in USA), www.daneurope.org (in Europe).
Q: How many dives will we do each day?
A: There will be up to 4 dives per day with 2-3 dives on the first and last diving days.
Q: Are there any limitations or restrictions on the diving?
A: You should stay within the limits and standards of your qualifying agency. All dives should be no-
decompression dives. Solo diving is not permitted.
Q: What dive equipment do I need?
A: Tanks, weights and weight belts are provided onboard. Divers will need to bring BCD, regulator, wetsuit,
fins, mask, snorkel and dive light. We have SMBs available for use.
Q: What can I expect the water temperature to be and what wetsuit do you
recommend?
A: This is always a difficult question to answer because people have different reactions to temperature.
Typically temperatures range from 25-30C or 80-86F so usually a 3mm suit or even a skin is fine. The
southern waters of Komodo can be colder with 20-25C or 70-75F so a 5mm suit with a hood is
recommended.
Q: Do you have Int or DIN valves?
A: We have tanks with Int and DIN valves.
Q: How do we dive from the Arenui?
A: All dives will be made from the two tenders. Equipment will be transferred to the tenders and guests will
board the tender with only their wetsuit on.
Q: Is enriched air nitrox available?
A: Nitrox fills of up to 32% are available for an additional charge. We recommend diving with nitrox for all
dives so we offer some great packages to dive the whole trip with nitrox. Please consult our prices for more
details. If you are not yet qualified you can take the course onboard with one of our qualified PADI
instructors.
Q: Can I take a speciality course onboard?
A: As well as Enriched Air Nitrox we can offer several dive speciality courses onboard. It is necessary to give
us notice to ensure we have the relevant academic material available.
Q: Can I drink alcohol and dive?
A: No. Drinking alcohol and diving can increase your risk of decompression problems. You can drink alcohol
once your have completed your last dive of the day.
Q: Can I fish or spear fish?
A: Fishing and spear fishing are not available onboard. We will be diving in marine protected areas where any
type of fishing is prohibited.
Q: What facilities are available for photographers?
A: Guests who are shooting digital photography may view their images on one of the two computers, MAC or
PC, provided for your use in the salon. There are ample camera tables located in front of the salon. In the
diving room there are cubby holes with charging stations with 110V and 220V above your dive gear. There are ‘camera only’ rinse buckets for the exclusive use of photographers onboard.
Q: Can I pay by Credit card on board
A: Yes you can but there is a bank charge of 3%, normal in Indonesia.
Q: Does Arenui have an on-board videographer
A: Yes they do on most trips and she makes a dvd of your trip upon your request
USEFUL INFORMATION
WATER TEMPERATURE:
Typically temperatures range from 25-30C or 80-86F so
usually a 3mm suit or even a skin is fine. The southern waters of Komodo can be colder
with 20-25C or 70-75F so a 5mm suit with a hood is recommended.
VISIBILITY:
Depending on the season the visibility range is between 10-40 metres or
30-120 feet.
CURRENT:
All diving areas are subject to currents that range from slight to extremely
strong. Dive sites are selected according to currents with some great year round drift
diving opportunities.
NIGHT DIVING:
An opportunity to see some of the world’s most unique marine
species that emerge only after the sun has set.
WALLS:
In Komodo the islands are Volcanic in origin and in Raja Ampat the islands
are mainly made of limestone. Both areas offer great wall diving opportunities with both
drift and no current situations.
CANYONS:
Due to the volcanic origins and easily eroded limestone the underwater
topography is littered with canyons and gullies.
MARINE LIFE:
The areas where we dive are unmatched for small and unusual marine
wildlife. The species list is endless and new ones are still being discovered in these areas.
Whales, manta rays, sharks and larger pelagic species are found in the dive sites with
higher currents. Strong currents and up-wellings transport nutrient-rich waters
throughout these areas.
CLIMATE:
The average air temperature in the regions we visit ranges from 25–32o
Celsius or 77-90o Fahrenheit.
HEALTH AND INOCULATIONS:
Vaccinations for typhoid, paratyphoid, tetanus,
Cholera, Polio, and Hepatitis A are recommended. Malaria is endemic in many parts of
Indonesia, please check with your local Tropical Disease Centre for anti-malaria/diver
friendly medication.
MONEY:
The Indonesian currency is Rupiah. Rates fluctuate enormously, please check
with our cruise directors for your cruise exchange rates.
POPULATION AND PEOPLE:
Regarded as the fifth most populous nation in the
world, there are approximately 200,000,000 in Indonesia. The majority, around 60%
reside on the island of Java.
RELIGION:
An amazing diversity of religions exists. Predominantly a Muslim nation,
islands like Timor, North Sulawesi and Flores are Christian. Hinduism is found mainly in
Bali. Scattered throughout the region are a variety of other beliefs.
LANGUAGE:
Bahasa Indonesia, almost identical to Malay is the one national
language. Several local dialects exist in each region as well. English is widely spoken in
the more popular tourist destinations such as Bali. All cre
